Agapanthus, also known as Lily of the Nile, is a hardy perennial known for its tall flower spikes and globe-shaped clusters of blue or white blooms. Perfect for sunny gardens, patios, or container displays.
LIGHT
Full sun for best flowering.
In very hot climates, give afternoon shade.
WATER
Water regularly during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing.
Allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings.
Once established outdoors, Agapanthus is drought-tolerant.
SOIL
Well-draining soil is essential.
In pots, use a high-quality outdoor potting mix.
TEMPERATURE & HARDINESS
Thrives in warm weather.
Cold tolerance depends on variety (generally USDA zones 7–11).
In colder locations, overwinter indoors or mulch heavily.
FERTILIZER
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a bloom-boosting fertilizer (higher in phosphorus).
TROUBLESHOOTING
• No blooms → needs more sun or more fertilizer
• Yellowing leaves → poor drainage or overwatering
• Flowers drooping → heat stress or dry soil
A reliable, long-blooming perennial that adds height and elegance to gardens.
