Adenium, also known as Desert Rose, is a sun-loving succulent shrub prized for its swollen “caudex” trunk and bright tropical flowers. It’s easy once you learn its watering rhythm.
LIGHT
Full sun to bright direct light. Needs at least 4–6 hours of sun for strong growth and blooms.
WATER
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Adeniums hate staying wet.
Water deeply, then let the pot drain fully.
In winter, reduce water drastically—only a small drink every few weeks.
HUMIDITY & TEMP
Warmth is essential. Avoid temps below 55°F.
Prefers dry air and does not require extra humidity.
SOIL
Very fast-draining cactus/succulent mix.
Ideal blend: cactus soil + extra perlite or pumice.
FERTILIZER
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a cactus-friendly fertilizer.
Do not fertilize in winter dormancy.
TROUBLESHOOTING
• Soft or mushy stem = overwatering
• No blooms = not enough sun
• Leaves dropping = normal seasonal dormancy
A beautiful, sculptural plant perfect for bright windows or outdoor summer sun.
